MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Belarus is not going to get embroiled in the reckless arms race, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said as he addressed the high-level segment of the UN Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on 26 February, BelTA has learned.
“We certainly do not intend to get involved in the reckless purchase of expensive weapons and multiply the armed forces, provoking further confrontation. It is useless. And we have a lot to spend public money on – health care, social needs, development, and roads,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said.
“However, we have been consistently and transparently for our neighbors and the international community taking forced reciprocal steps to ensure national security and strengthen the country's defense capabilities, including with the support of our closest ally, Russia,” the minister added.
