MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – The European Union will help Belarus strengthen its border with Ukraine and Lithuania, Audrone Urbonaviciute, Head of the Operations Section at the EU Delegation to Belarus, told media at the international seminar in Minsk on 24 September, BelTA has learned.
“We have financed and will continue financing projects to strengthen the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. Besides, there are plans to strengthen the border between Lithuania and Belarus. We believe that the activity of Belarusian border guards is useful and highly professional and thus we are interested in financing border projects,” she said.
In her words, the European Union is ready to cooperate with Belarus in joint border control in order to prevent attempts of illegal migration and smuggling, and help law-abiding citizens freely cross the state border.
On 24 September Minsk played host to the TAIEX workshop on the international cross-border cooperation for efficient border management. Partaking in it were representatives of the border services of Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and the Coordination Service of the CIS Border Troops Commanders Council.
