EU initiative Mayors for Economic Growth to be presented in Mogilev

MOGILEV, 4 September (BelTA) – The seminar Mayors for Economic Growth will take place in Mogilev on 8 September. It is a flagship initiative of the European Union geared towards supporting local development, BelTA learned from representatives of the Mogilev Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs

Representatives of the European Union in Belarus, municipal government agencies, donor organizations, not-for-profit organizations and civil society organizations of Mogilev Oblast will take part in the event.

The seminar will inform participants and potential partners about the implementation of the initiative in Belarus and the project’s plan of actions for the period till the end of the year. Specialists will also evaluate the need of municipal government agencies for bolstering their potential in the area of economic development. The specialists will talk about strategic planning, topics of training sessions, terms for submitting economic development plans, the launch of pilot projects and support for their implementation. Certificates will be presented to mayors of six cities of Mogilev Oblast to confirm their joining the Mayors for Economic Growth initiative.

The project is designed towards the advancement of cooperation of municipal government agencies and other local partners with a view to shaping a favorable business climate for enabling economic growth and employment at the local level in the interest of regions and the country as a whole. A contest of projects with the total budget of €5 million has already been declared. Winners — municipal government agencies and self-government agencies — will receive grants of up to €600,000.
