MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – The energy sector and agricultural industry are the most promising avenues of cooperation between the Czech Republic and Belarus, Czech Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Eduard Muricky told the media after the meeting of the Belarusian-Czech mixed commission on economic, industrial and technological cooperation in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“For us, all fields of activity are very important. But most promising, in our opinion, is energy and agriculture. I would also like to commend Belarus’ achievements in the information and communication technologies. We believe that these technologies have great potential, and we welcome the Belarusian investments in this area,” Eduard Muricky said.

For his part, chairman of the Belarusian part of the Commission, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov said that the two countries have been cooperating for many years in modernizing and setting up new industries. Czech equipment has been installed at many of the largest enterprises of Belarus, including Naftan oil refinery, Grodno Azot, Belshina tire producer. It is also used in the energy sector, ranging from boilers on local fuels, hydroelectric power plants to the nuclear power plant currently under construction. Belarus’ major exports to Czechia include tractors, combine harvesters, refrigerators, integrated circuits, lasers, washing machines, a large number of semi-finished products.

According to the diplomat, the Belarusian-Czech commission convenes on an annual basis, which attests to the stable interest in the development of economic cooperation between the two countries. “We are ready to continue supporting economic projects, from the largest to the smallest ones, which are aimed at promoting mutual sustainable development,” Evgeny Shestakov said.
