MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – New Managing Director for Eastern Europe and Caucasus of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Francis Malige is in Belarus on 26-28 August on a visit, EBRD representatives told BelTA.
While in Belarus Francis Malige is expected to meet with Belarusian Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Mikhnevich, and Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Kalechits. Apart from that, meetings with representatives of international financial institutions, the diplomatic corps, and EBRD clients have been planned.
Francis Malige was appointed Managing Director for Eastern Europe and Caucasus of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in May 2014. He is in charge of supervising EBRD operations in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
The EBRD’s operation in Belarus is determined by the relevant country strategy of the bank. The document was adopted in March 2013 and is primarily geared towards developing the private sector. Over the last three years the EBRD has virtually quadrupled the volume of investments and the portfolio of projects in the country.
