MOSCOW, 12 January (BelTA) - The Pension Agreement for Working Population of the Eurasian Economic Union member states has entered into force, BelTA learned from the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

The main purpose of the document is to ensure that the pension rights of workers are exercised on the same terms as  those of citizens of the state of employment. The agreement defines the order and mechanism of export of pensions from one country of the union to another, provides for the summation of the periods of work in the EAEU states to determine the right to a pension,” the EEC said. “The document also regulates the issues of medical examination of workers, including absentee medical examination, to award a disability pension. It has also formalized the transitional provisions that determine the order of appointment and payment of pensions for periods of work before and after the agreement came into force.”

In order to implement the agreement, a mechanism has been devised to ensure cross-border interaction between the authorized, competent bodies of the EAEU countries and the Eurasian Economic Commission. “Until the parties switch to digital interaction through the EAEU integrated information system they shall use paperwork,” the press service noted.

The agreement was signed by the heads of state of the EAEU member states at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg on 20 December 2019 and ratified by all EAEU countries by 1 January 2021.
