BISHKEK, 14 April (BelTA - TASS) – Presidents of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have signed 11 documents after the talks in Bishkek.

In particular, the participants of the summit made a decision on granting Moldova with an observer status in the EAEU. They also approved main guidelines for the macroeconomic policy of the Eurasian Economic Union member states for 2017-2018. Besides, the EAEU leaders approved the rotation of two members of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission and introduced a number of amendments to the regulations concerning its work. The heads of state also approved the results of the external audit (control) in the EAEU bodies in 2016 adopted a resolution on the date and venue of the next session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. It will take place in Moscow on 11 October 2017.

According to Moldova President Igor Dodon, it is important that the leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union decided in favor of Moldova’s gaining the observer status in the EAEU. He expressed confidence that a corresponding decision will be formalized soon. “The today’s event is very significant for us,” Igor Dodon said at the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. He remarked that in accordance with all opinion polls, the majority of Moldovan citizens were in favor of the integration with the EAEU. “I understand that the EAEU does not have the experience of granting the observer status, we are a kind of pioneers,” the president of Moldova remarked. “But I want to thank the presidents of the five countries for making a crucial decision, for agreeing to consider the application and make a final decision in the near future,” he continued. “I am convinced that this is just the first step in the deepening of integration processes,” the Moldovan head of state said. He also emphasized that Chisinau’s association agreement with the EU does not contradict the signing of other agreements, including with the EAEU.
