MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – The decision has been taken to submit the draft law on amnesty on occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, BelTA learned from Deputy Head of the Belarus President’s Administration Olga Chupris.

The head of state was presented the lists of persons convicted of corruption offenses. “After studying them the president made a decision to submit to the House of Representatives the draft law “On Amnesty on occasion of the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” as amended by the Supreme Court,” said Olga Chupris.

As BelTA reported earlier, at the government’s meeting on 16 April the head of state instructed to compile a list of persons convicted of corruption, whose sentence can be reduced. He said that he would not tolerate corrupt officials and demanded a balanced approach in amnesty or pardon of those convicted of drug trafficking crimes. The amnesty may apply to about 2,000 people, Chairman of Belarus’ Supreme Court Valentin Sukalo told the media after a meeting with the Belarusian president.
