MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) - Andrei Dapkiunas, the outgoing Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations, met with Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York on 21 August, BelTA has learned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
The parties exchanged opinions on the ways to enhance the efficiency of the United Nations, including in the context of Antonio Guterres’ proposed plans to reform the organization in the area of peace and security, promotion of sustainable development and also reforms in the UN management system.
The secretary general and the head of the Belarusian mission in the United Nations agreed on the importance to improve the daily cooperation and contacts between the UN Secretariat and missions of the member states and develop a permanent mechanism to address issues in the cooperation which idea is considered by the UN General Assembly at Belarus’ initiative.
