Czech Republic supports Belarus in its accession to WTO

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – The Czech Republic supports Belarus in its accession to the WTO, BelTA learned from Czech Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Jiri Koliba.

“We welcome and support Belarus’ preparations for the WTO accession. Since Belarus is our solid stable long-term partner, we do not see any reasons why the country should not join the WTO. In fact, the organization needs such members,” Jiri Koliba noted.

The Czech deputy minister for industry and trade touched upon the topic of Belarus-Czech cooperation. According to him, over the last ten years Belarus-Czech trade has increased threefold. Unfortunately, it has gone down recently. The results of 2016 cannot satisfy either side. This situation is driven by the state of the world economy and the consequences of the global economic crisis. “I am an optimist. On behalf of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade I would like to express my hopes and confidence in the growth of our mutual trade,” Jiri Koliba said.

The Minsk Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with the Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry is playing host to a Belarusian-Czech business forum and a business matchmaking session for Belarusian and Czech companies. According to Jiri Koliba, trade is efficient only when based on contacts between companies. The forum aims to gather companies that are interested in services and products made by their colleagues in another country. Jiri Koliba underlined that there are no obstacles in the way of Belarus-Czech cooperation. This is why it is important to find particular projects, companies and products that will bring benefit to both countries. The forum is one of the first initiatives in this field.
