Creation of Belarusian-Thai friendship group in Thailand parliament welcomed

MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – The establishment of the Belarusian-Thai friendship group in the Thailand parliament is welcome news. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko made the statement as he met with President of the National Assembly of Thailand Pornpech Wichitcholchai, the press service of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament told BelTA.

The meeting took place in New York, USA during the 4th world conference of speakers of parliament on 31 August. Vladimir Andreichenko took part in the conference’s opening ceremony in the UN General Assembly hall and went for a number of bilateral meetings after that.

The conversation with the head of the Thailand parliament focused on organizing a visit of the Belarusian parliament delegation to Thailand in 2016. The sides expressed confidence that the visit would make a tangible contribution to stronger Belarusian-Thai relations and the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Vladimir Andreichenko and Pornpech Wichitcholchai also discussed prospects of forming the legal base for bilateral cooperation, including the signing of an agreement on cooperation between the two parliaments. Productive cooperation between Belarusian and Thai MPs within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly was noted.

The two MPs also discussed topical matters concerning Belarusian-Thai relations in humanitarian affairs, including the enabling of favorable conditions for tourism development and the facilitation of entry to Thailand for Belarusian citizens. Interest in completing the procedure to mutually appoint honorary consuls this year was mentioned.

Later on the head of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament met with Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Sinh Hung. The sides mentioned the importance of the parliamentary dimension in bilateral cooperation and noted that Belarusian-Vietnamese interparliamentary interaction was businesslike, systemic and brings real benefits.

Vladimir Andreichenko and Nguyen Sinh Hung also mentioned interest in considerably expanding the bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The prospects opening up thanks to the signing of the free trade agreement between Vietnam and member states of the Eurasian Economic Union this year were mentioned.

Vladimir Andreichenko thanked the Vietnamese side for promptly lifting visa restrictions for short-term travels of Belarusian citizens and also confirmed the previous invitation for Nguyen Sinh Hung to come to Belarus on an official visit.
