CIS plenipotentiaries to meet in Minsk 17 November

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – A regular meeting of the council of permanent plenipotentiaries of the CIS member states in statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States will take place in Minsk on 17 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The participants will review the results of the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council that was held in Dushanbe on 30 October and also talk over the tasks of the council of permanent plenipotentiaries and the CIS Executive Committee regarding the implementation of the adopted documents.

The meeting in Dushanbe focused on matters of economic cooperation related to the implementation of the CIS Free Trade Zone Agreement, the activities of industry-specific agencies in the sector of economy, events to implement the third stage of the CIS Economic Development Strategy, matters of innovation cooperation, competition on commodity markets, telecommunication, power engineering, and securities market. The meeting also discussed a number of financial documents.

Besides, the heads of government reviewed documents regulating international youth cooperation and cooperation in sports and physical training, education, provision of medical and social care for veterans, and prevention and management of emergencies.

As many as 40 documents were signed during the meeting in Dushanbe. Thirty-one of them came into force upon their signing. Another two will become effective on 1 January 2016. The remaining seven will take effect once all the necessary domestic procedures have been completed.

Members of the CIS council of permanent plenipotentiaries will review the status of implementation of the plan of events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. “As many as 68 out of 83 planned events have been fully carried out, another eight are currently underway. Seven events have not been conducted. In any case, we have not received any information about their implementation,” the press service explained.

Efforts are being made in the CIS to improve social care for people with disabilities and participants of the Great Patriotic War. Works are underway to identify unmarked graves of soldiers who fought in that war.

Besides, the CIS permanent plenipotentiaries will review the status of implementation of the 2014-2015 schedule for reports on the activities of the CIS sectoral cooperation regulatory bodies during the meetings of the CIS Heads of State Council, the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, the CIS Economic Council, the council of permanent plenipotentiaries of the CIS member states in statutory and other bodies, and the Commission for Economic Matters under the CIS Economic Council. A schedule for 2016-2017 will be developed in Minsk on 17 November.
