MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Consultations between representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs of the CIS states to discuss interaction in the area of information took place in Minsk on 3 September. The Belarusian delegation was led by Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry’s press service told BelTA.
During the meeting representatives of the foreign ministries of the CIS member states and the CIS Executive Committee discussed prospects of interaction in the area of information in the course of implementation of integration projects in the post-Soviet space. The sides shared their experience in information support for foreign policy. The organization of press conferences and briefings was discussed as well as the use of websites, work with social networks, coordination of information and awareness-raising efforts of diplomatic missions abroad, the promotion of contacts with mass media, including foreign ones, as well as information support for landmark events such as the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 70th anniversary of the UN foundation, the 25th anniversary of the CIS foundation, the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and the main stages of Eurasian integration.
Participants of the meeting spoke in favor of using the potential of information services of the foreign ministries more actively for the sake of bolstering the weight of the Commonwealth of Independent States, raising the awareness of the general public in the CIS member states and third countries about the CIS operation and interstate interaction via the CIS platform.
Before the consultations began at premises of the CIS Executive Committee a photo exhibition was opened to highlight the last world war and the value of peace. The exhibition was organized by the permanent representative offices of the nine countries in anticipation of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the victory in the UN headquarters in New York.
