Chinese Red Cross to study Belarusian experience of dealing with natural and man-made disasters

GRODNO, 11 January (BelTA) – The Chinese Red Cross is ready to study the Belarusian experience of response and relief operations during natural and man-made disasters, He Chuanyun, executive vice-president of the Henan Red Cross Society of China, told BelTA.

The delegation of the Henan Red Cross Society of China visited Grodno Oblast. The guests got acquainted with the working experience of the Grodno Oblast Office of the Belarusian Red Cross Society (BRCS) in disaster response, in volunteer movement, and service projects to help the elderly and children.

The Henan Red Cross Society of China and the BRCS Grodno Oblast Office signed a cooperation memorandum that outlines the key areas of interaction between the local organizations.

“The region is implementing many joint projects with China. They include the construction of hotels, a waste processing plant and a Chinese medicine center. However, the underlying dimension is cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including the work of the Red Cross. I am sure that the cooperation in volunteer movement, exchange of experience, knowledge and information will benefit people,” Viktor Liskovich, deputy chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, chairman of the presidium of the BRCS Grodno Oblast Office. He stressed that the Grodno regional organization maintains close ties with many foreign organizations, in particular with the Red Cross in Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, and Finland.

In 2016, the residents of the region made their contributions to support the Red Cross initiatives. The funds were sent to those who needed them most.
