Chinese Ambassador Xie Xiaoyong presents copy of credentials to Belarus MFA

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) - Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong presented the copy of his credentials to Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 12 November, BelTA has learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Ministry.

Vladimir Makei welcomed the Chinese ambassador to Belarus and wished him a successful and fruitful work in his new post. The parties reaffirmed commitment to the principles of the iron brotherhood and confirmed the mutual intentions to further deepen the all-weather partnership.

The minister and the ambassador discussed the schedule of meetings at high and highest levels, the expansion of Belarusian-Chinese trade, economic and investment cooperation, cooperation between the two countries on the international arena and joint measures to counter the spread of novel coronavirus infection.

Xie Xiaoyong was born in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province in 1964. He worked in the State Planning Commission of China, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in China’s general consulates in Khabarovsk, Saint Petersburg, in the Chinese embassies in Russia and Ukraine. In 2016-2018 he worked in the CNPC Corporation, and in 2018-2020 he was Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He holds a Master’s degree in literature.

“China has attached great importance to the selection and appointment of a new ambassador to Belarus. An experienced specialist, well familiar with the situation in the region, has been appointed to this important position. Xie Xiaoyong has extensive experience, including diplomatic service not only in Russia and Ukraine but also in the secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He also worked for China's largest state enterprise - China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC),” BelTA learned from the Chinese diplomatic mission earlier.

Xie Xiaoyong replaced Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming who served in this position from 2014 to September 2020.

Belarus and China established diplomatic relations on 20 January 1992. During the visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to China in September 2016, the two leaders signed a joint declaration on the establishment of the highest level of relations of trust-based comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation.
