China’s Xinjiang seeks cooperation with Belarus

URUMQI, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus and China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have big prospects for economic cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Vice President of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Erken Tuniyaz told BelTA.

In his words, the Belarusian-Chinese cooperation is becoming increasingly important. The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is most interested in close cooperation with Belarus in agriculture, science and technology, tourism and education.

Erken Tuniyaz emphasized the importance of direct contacts between companies of the two countries. Belarus takes an active part in international exhibitions in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. “There is a huge potential to make our ties even more stable,” he said.

It is expected that the forthcoming Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing will announce important areas for further advancement of the initiative.

The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is one of the key Belt and Road hubs. It is a rapidly developing region located in the border part of China and is seen as the gate of openness and economic cooperation with foreign states within the Belt and Road project.

China has signed 173 documents on cooperation within the initiative with 125 states, including Belarus, and 29 international organizations.
