China’s Jilin seeks twinning ties with Belarusian city

JILIN, 6 September (BelTA) - China’s Jilin intends to establish twinning ties with one of the Belarusian cities with a view to developing economic cooperation, Deputy Chairman of the China People’s Political Consultative Conference of Jilin Lu Changmu told BelTA.

He took note of the recent trend of steadily developing interregional cooperation between Belarus and China, as part of the agreements made at the supreme level. The Chinese representative expressed interest in finding partners in Belarus.

The first steps in this direction have already been made. In summer Jilin started developing cooperation with the Frunzensky District of the Belarusian capital. The cooperation covers all the areas including economics, education and culture. In autumn a Belarusian student will go to China for a three-year university course. The project will be financed by a Chinese grant.

“We would like to establish contacts with a Belarusian city similar to Jilin from the economic point of view. It would be useful to exchange experience, establish industrial cooperation. It will be a good contribution to the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative,” the Chinese representative said.

Representatives of the Jilin Government have been to Minsk several times and view stability and order in Belarus as an important factor for promising cooperation.

Jilin is the second biggest city in Jilin Province. The city is known as a cradle of the Beijing Opera.
