CEI prime ministers to meet in Minsk on 12 December

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – The meeting of the heads of government of the member states of the Central European Initiative (CEI) is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 12 December. The news was posted on the website of the Belarusian parliament following the meeting of member of the House of Representatives’ Standing Commission on Internaitonal Affairs Olga Petrashova with State Secretary of Eastern Neighborhood and Multilateral Relations Danut Neculescu, BelTA has learned.

At the meeting at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, including the development of the political dialogue, further expansion of contacts between legislative bodies, strengthening of trade and economic cooperation.

Special attention was attached to Belarus-Romania cooperation in the international arena, especially in the UN, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the Eastern Partnership and the CEI.

“Belarus also voiced the wish to see Romania widely represented at the meeting of the heads of government of the member states of the Central European Initiative which is due in Minsk on 12 December 2017,” the press service said.

As was informed, on 28 November Minsk will host an important event, a session of the CEI Parliamentary Assembly. Taking part in it will be heads of the parliaments of the CEI member states.

The Central European Initiative (CEI) is consists of 18 states (Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Montenegro and Ukraine). Belarus joined the CEI in June 1996. The country took over the presidency in the initiative in 2017. The motto of Belarus’ presidency in the CEI is to promote connectivity in a greater Europe, which is to develop the whole range of interaction both between the countries of the region and different integration unions, including the EU, the EAEU, the Eastern Partnership and others.
