MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) - On 16 October Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Holy See Yury Ambrazevich met with Prefect of the Dicastery for Eastern Churches Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti will visit Belarus next week to participate in the festivities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Diocese of Pinsk.
The parties discussed topical issues of cooperation between Belarus and the Holy See in the areas that fall under purview of Cardinal Gugerotti.
During the meeting, the Ambassador gave a birthday gift for Pope Leo XIV from the Belarusian president and a personal message from the Belarusian head of state.
Claudio Gugerotti served as Apostolic Nuncio to Belarus from 2011 to 2015. The Dicastery for Eastern Churches, previously known as the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, traces its roots back to 1573. It is one of the sixteen Dicasteries of the Roman Curia responsible for matters relating to the Eastern Catholic Churches that are in communion with the Pope.
