MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – Stefania-Vitalia Vinnichek, a first-year student of the Faculty of Law of Belarusian State University (BSU), has been elected Belarus’ Youth Ambassador of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) after she won the contest “SDG Youth Ambassadors – the future of the planet is in our hands” in December 2020, BelTA learned from the BSU press service.

“At the contest, the student unveiled her program for the implementation of the SDGs in Belarus under the title ‘Peace, justice, and effective institutions’. Stefania-Vitalia Vinnichek suggested creating an interactive consultation platform of legal support for youth startup projects and assisting them with documents at the BSU center for sustainable development. Her program also provides for holding days of legal information in schools and roundtables at the Faculty of Law with participation of experts in the SDGs,” the press service said.

All in all, 17 Youth Ambassadors were elected following the contest. They will promote the SDGs among the youth, raise awareness of mechanisms to achieve relevant targets at the local and national level, and make students familiar with ideas and principles of the SDGs.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of goals for international cooperation that are implemented under the auspices of the United Nations Organization. In 2015, 193 UN member states adopted the sustainable development agenda through 2030. The SDGs are aimed at progress in economic growth, social integration, and environmental protection.
