Bills on investments, private sector development in Belarusian parliament soon

MINSK, 2 October (BelTA) – Bills on raising investments and encouraging privatization will be submitted to the parliament soon. Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, made the statement as the third session of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament opened on 2 October, BelTA has learned.

In particular, Vladimir Andreichenko noted that bills designed to counteract monopolies, encourage bona fide competition, improve the business climate, the banking system, public private partnership, ensure transparent government orders will play a serious role in the development of business initiative during the current session. Another two important bills on raising investments and encouraging privatization will be submitted to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly soon. They have been developed by MPs taking into account discussions in the regions and discussions during meetings with representatives of the business community, noted the speaker.

In his opinion, the expansion of legally binding ownership guarantees will increase the public interest, will provide another motivation to start new business projects, will encourage more Belarusians to pursue entrepreneurship careers.

The autumn session of the parliament will also work on a number of social security bills. In particular, there are plans to amend the pension law to reduce the qualifying period to ten years for people, who have served in the army for a long time, who have taken care of disabled children, people with major disabilities, and the elderly, for people, who have performed other socially important kinds of activities.

To fulfill instructions of the head of state, the parliament will amend the law on physical training and sport. The responsibility for the quality of training of athletes will be increased as well as the responsibility for wisely using public funds in this process, for creating new sport performance incentives.

“Today’s world is unstable. The reinforcement of sovereignty and national security comes to the forefront. A number of legislative steps will be aimed at bolstering the country’s defensive capability, fighting terrorism, and enhancing the public order protection system,” said the MP.
