MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anatoly Lappo and Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Petro Tsygykal have agreed the procedure for jointly investigating border incidents, BelTA has learned.

The two officials met in the village of Kamenyuki, Kamenets District, Brest Oblast on 23 October. The Belarusian and Ukrainian delegations discussed results of the efforts to protect the Belarusian-Ukrainian border in January-September 2018. Smuggling attempts and violations of the state border by people picking up mushrooms and berries were mentioned. No organized channels to smuggle weapons, ammunition, explosives, and other dangerous substances were detected in this part of the border.

The procedure for jointly investigating border incidents was agreed. The sides also decided to continue the practice of carrying out joint special border operations.

Progress in the demarcation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border was noted. Cooperation at the level of border plenipotentiaries was praised since all emerging issues at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border have been promptly resolved thanks to their work this year. The sides also discussed security measures in the radiation-polluted part of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. Using international technical aid to accomplish the Belarusian-Ukrainian border was mentioned as well.

Anatoly Lappo and Petro Tsygykal were satisfied with the measures being taken to ensure border security and protect the state border.
