Belarusian nuclear power plant, Rosenergoatom sign science, technology cooperation agreement

SOCHI, 14 May (BelTA) – The state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian concern Rosenergoatom signed a framework agreement on cooperation in science and technology during the Atomexpo forum in Sochi on 14 May, BelTA has learned.

Belarus started working with Rosenergoatom four years ago within the framework of the action plan on creating the nuclear energy infrastructure in the country. The sides worked together to create and improve the national system for managing the nuclear energy program in Belarus and regulate safety aspects of nuclear energy usage.

In line with the nuclear infrastructure action plan about 60 events and projects were implemented over the course of three years. Over 270 Belarusian specialists took part in them.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.

Rosenergoatom is one of the largest power engineering enterprises in Russia and the country’s only company in charge of operating nuclear power plants. The company specializes in generating electricity and heating energy at nuclear power plants, in operating nuclear plants, radiation sources, facilities for storing nuclear materials and radioactive substances.
