MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) - The Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) has undergone a pre-inspection ahead of the IAEA OSART mission, BelTA learned from the Belarus country office of Rosatom.

Specifically, 15 specialists from Rosenergoatom and Russian nuclear power plants (from Beloyarsk, Kalinin, Leningrad, Novovoronezh, and Smolensk NPPs) conducted an inspection of the second power unit of the Belarusian NPP according to the standards of the IAEA OSART mission. This inspection was an important stage in preparing for the first OSART mission at the plant, which is scheduled for 2026.

"The specialists assessed the plant's operations across ten key areas: operations, technical support, personnel training, accident management, radiation protection, chemistry, maintenance, and other aspects. The team, together with the BelNPP staff, conducted walkthroughs of departments, observed scheduled operations, and analyzed documentation,” the country office reported.

Based on the results, the Russian experts will prepare recommendations for ways of enhancing operational safety. The final report from Rosenergoatom will be sent to the BelNPP in December.

The deputy head of the chemical shop at the Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant, Pavel Motovilov, noted the constructive working atmosphere and the high professional level of the Belarusian colleagues. "The work took place in an atmosphere of cooperation and openness; we saw that the Belarusian NPP employs highly professional staff,” he noted.

OSART is the Operational Safety Review Team of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The OSART mission is the oldest type of IAEA mission, having been conducted since 1982. Its primary objective is to promote the continuous improvement of nuclear power plant operational safety through the application of best international experience and practices.
