Belarusian Defense Ministry to accredit two military diplomats from France
MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Plans are in place to accredit two military diplomats from France. Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department, Aide for International Military Cooperation to the Belarusian Defense Minister Valery Revenko made the statement during a briefing held on 19 February to discuss topical matters of military policy, construction and development of Belarus’ Armed Forces, BelTA has learned.
Representatives of the foreign corps of military diplomats from over 20 states, who are accredited with the Belarusian Defense Ministry, took part in the briefing. They were informed about topical matters of military policy, construction and development of Belarus’ Armed Forces. A presentation of the views of top officers of the Belarusian Defense Ministry on the development of the military and political situation in the world and in the European region was an important part of the event.
Valery Revenko stated that bilateral relations between Belarus and European Union countries continue to be overshadowed by the double standards policy pursued by Belarus’ Western neighbors. “Despite statements by representatives of defense ministries of Western countries about understanding the need to establish contacts with the Belarusian side in the military sphere, the position of the political leadership of these states remains unchanged and blocks the start of cooperation, the mutual benefits of which are obvious. Representatives of ten NATO member states as well as the Swiss defense attaché are accredited with the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Belarus. The pool of military representatives from European countries was expanded last year with the accreditation of the defense attaché at the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. There are plans to accredit two military representatives from France,” the defense minister aide emphasized.
He drew attention to the fact that in the current climate of global and regional turbulence the construction and development of any state’s armed forces cannot be viewed in isolation from military cooperation. “Changes in the nature of armed conflicts and mutual dependence in military technology are objectively shaping a new security environment, in which most countries are unable to solve defense problems using only their own resources and capabilities,” Valery Revenko said.
He sketched out the current priority avenues of international military cooperation. Among them the official mentioned efforts to maintain a strategic level of cooperation with the Russian Federation, multilateral military cooperation within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), cooperation with their member states on a bilateral basis, efforts to advance a strategic partnership with China, military cooperation with countries in the Middle East and North Africa, South and Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America, and the restoration of constructive military cooperation with countries in the European region and with the United States of America.
