Belarusian, Chinese rescuers discuss joint disaster risk reduction initiatives

MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) – Belarusian and Chinese emergency response authorities have discussed joint disaster risk reduction initiatives, the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry told BelTA summing up the results of the visit of a Belarusian delegation led by Emergencies Minister Vladimir Vashchenko to China.

The delegation was in China from 9 to 13 July. They met with representatives of the China Earthquake Administration, the Ministry of Public Security, Tsinghua University, the Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, and the Center for Nuclear and Radiation Control and Monitoring of the Ministry of Environmental Protection. “The agenda included matters related to the promotion of joint initiatives to ensure fire safety, raise public safety awareness, and reduce risk of disasters,” the Belarusian ministry said.

Tsinghua University presented to the Belarusian delegation a concept for establishing a safety center. The Safe City concept has been developed by Chinese specialists as part of the common platform for safety in urban areas. The national rescue training center hosted a meeting to exchange opinions on the organization of rescue work after earthquakes and other emergencies.

A cooperation agreement was signed between the company Beijing Global Safety Technology and Civil Protection University of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.
