Belarusian, Chinese defense ministries sign gratuitous aid agreement

MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov and Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe signed a gratuitous military aid agreement in Minsk. In line with the agreement China will provide gratuitous military aid to Belarus, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA in the wake of the official visit of the Chinese defense minister to Belarus.

The sides also sketched out promising avenues of Belarus-China cooperation in joint combat training, military education, and cooperation between the defense ministries within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

According to Belarusian Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Andrei Ravkov, the two countries have managed to build relations of comprehensive, trustful, strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation on the foundation of solid friendship. In turn, Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe underscored the importance of further bolstering and advancing partnership relations between the countries. He also mentioned prospects of bilateral cooperation across the board.

As a result of the meeting the sides underlined the considerable potential for Belarus-China partnership in military field and military technology field as well as confidence in the long-term benefits of the bilateral cooperation.

Member of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Defense Minister, Colonel-General Wei Fenghe stayed in Belarus on a visit on 5-8 April. The visit to Belarus was his first official visit after taking the new job. The new composition of the Chinese government was approved on 19 March.
