MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Armenia has given a go-ahead to the appointment of State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Stanislav Zas as CSTO Secretary General, BelTA has learned from Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Stanislav Zas was in Yerevan on 27-28 May where he met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan.

“The parties discussed the state and prospects of the CSTO. The Armenian side voiced support for the appointment of Stanislav Zas as CSTO Secretary General starting from 1 January 2020,” Anatoly Glaz informed.

A reminder, Secretary General of Belarus Security Council Stanislav Zas was nominated for this position in late 2018 after Armenia released its representative Yuri Khachaturov from his position. Stanislav Zas’ candidacy was approved by Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Russia. Armenia was against his candidacy and kept insisting that an Armenian national should assume this post. On 22 May the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council submitted the candidacy of Stanislav Zas for appointment as the CSTO Secretary General.
