Belarus, World Bank working out new projects in water supply, MSW treatment

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - Belarus and the World Bank are working out new projects in water supply and sewerage, municipal solid waste treatment, energy efficiency, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

As part of the participation in the annual meeting of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, Belarus’ Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky met with the heads of global practices at the World Bank to discuss the joint areas of work for the medium term and the possibility of preparing new projects in water supply and sewerage, municipal solid waste treatment, energy efficiency and others.

Vladimir Zinovsky also met with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller. During the meeting, the parties signed agreements under the project “Improving access to finance for micro, small and medium enterprises in the Republic of Belarus”.

“Under the project the World Bank will open a $56.2 million credit line for the Development Bank of Belarus for on-lending to small and medium-sized enterprises with a view to expanding the current program of the Development Bank which will be supplemented by the opportunity to issue loans in foreign currency. The project provides funding to enhance the efficiency of the Development Bank, to introduce leading corporate governance practices, advanced banking technology.

Vladimir Zinovsky also met with Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation Tomasz Telma to discuss the future areas of work of the IFC in Belarus within the framework of the WB new partnership framework for Belarus.
