Belarus views OSCE as important platform for negotiations

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – Belarus views the OSCE as an important platform for negotiations. The statement was made by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei after negotiations with OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier and OSCE ODIHR Director Michael Georg Link on 15 June, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus views the OSCE as an important international forum for a dialogue on principal matters of top-priority importance for security and cooperation in the region,” said the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Vladimir Makei remarked that the negotiations had been thorough and had touched upon the entire range of matters concerning cooperation with the respected international organization. “At the same time we exchanged views on a broader agenda of European security,” he added.

Apart from that, the Minister stressed that Belarus takes an active part in the operation of collective OSCE bodies, pragmatically interacts with the agency’s secretariat and all the divisions, including the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). Vladimir Makei explained that during the negotiations on 15 June they agreed a package of technical aid projects that will be implemented in Belarus in the future. “We hope for continued close and constructive interaction with the OSCE,” stated the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
