Belarus views EaP business dimension as important

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) - Belarus believes that it is important to develop the business dimension in the Eastern Partnership (EaP), Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Guryanov said during an online press conference hosted by BelTA when talking about the upcoming Riga summit.

"We do not want to be excluded from the processes that are happening today in the Eurasian space. “The Eastern Partnership is a bridge for understanding between the integration processes, the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. Within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Belarus always focuses on practical results. We should not use this platform for a simple dialogue only. We have initiated the business dimension of the Eastern Partnership. And we are hoping for a dialogue between the business communities. One of Belarus’ practical initiatives is to combine the digital spaces of the two integration unions so that new technologies that appear in our lives should not create barriers. Here we stand out against other participants of the Eastern Partnership because we offer, in addition to the dialogue, practical topics which are of interest to Belarus as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union and as a country seeking normal relations with the European Union,” Alexander Guryanov said.

According to Alexander Guryanov, politicians have made many statements that the Eastern Partnership member states must choose either this or that integration union. "Belarus believes that programs such as Eastern Partnership can help observe the interests of both integration associations and understand how we will be doing in Europe in the future and move towards removing the barriers both technical, trade and others. From the point of view of politics the summit is a good platform for communication, for dialogue. But it is also important from the point of view of the economy. The EU is the second most important trading partner of Belarus, and we do not want to lose,” the Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs concluded.
