Belarus viewed as active participant in global nuclear disarmament efforts

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta met Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Robert Floyd on 26 June, BelTA learned from Belarus’ Permanent Mission to international organizations in Vienna.

The parties praised the fruitful nature of Belarus’ long-term cooperation with the CTBTO and discussed specific areas for expanding further cooperation, including the organization of joint events. Igor Sekreta stressed that Belarus is an active and consistent participant in global efforts in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. He confirmed Belarus' support for the universalization of the CTBT, ensuring a comprehensive ban on nuclear tests, strengthening the control regime and global nuclear non-proliferation, and nuclear security.

The parties noted that Belarus is an active participant in the CTBTO activities and makes a significant contribution to the work of this international organization.

The deputy minister thanked the CTBTO for the support provided to the National Center for Emergency Management and Response of the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus, including the supply of computational equipment free of charge.

Igor Sekreta invited Executive Secretary Robert Floyd to visit Belarus and take part in the third Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
