Belarus, Vietnam to set up business council in 2018

MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – There are plans to set up a Belarus-Vietnam business council in the first quarter of 2018, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich told BelTA ahead of the panel discussion “Belarus-Vietnam in the context of the free trade agreement between the EAEU member states and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

“We once again discussed the establishment of the business council with Vietnamese Ambassador to Belarus Le Anh. We also keep in touch with our Vietnamese partners. Our embassies have been actively work in this area. I think that the council will be up and running in the first quarter of next year,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

Vladimir Ulakhovich stressed that the formal establishment of the business council is not the purpose of this work. “The most important thing for us is to create a working platform for communication of the enterprises of the two countries. It is important that they meet and discuss the development of cooperation, the barriers that still exist, the prospects and potential of the free trade zone. We really want to create a quality platform for business interaction of two countries,” he stated.

Vladimir Ulakhovich also recalled the goal to increase the bilateral trade to $500 million. “The goal is achievable but not only through trade but also through the development of cooperation,” he stated. The BelCCI chairman took note of such important joint endeavors as the projects to set up an assembly facility for MAZ trucks in Vietnam, to establish a BelAZ maintenance center and the open a joint venture in Vietnam to produce milk from Belarusian raw materials.

The panel discussion on Belarus-Vietnam in the context of the free trade agreement between the EAEU member states and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has been organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Vietnamese Embassy in Belarus. It is planned that the event will take stock of the Belarusian-Vietnamese trade and economic cooperation, consider export-import opportunities and cooperation prospects under the terms of the preferential trade agreement (duty-free import of goods, setting up of joint manufacturing facilities).
