MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik met with Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Belarus, archbishop Ante Jozic as the latter presented copies of his credentials, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The parties discussed the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting cooperation between Belarus and Vatican,” the statement reads.

Sergei Aleinik wished Ante Jozic fruitful work in the Republic of Belarus.

Pope Francis appointed archbishop Ante Jozic Apostolic Nuncio to Belarus in May 2020. Ante Jozic replaced head of the diplomatic representation of the Holy See in Belarus Gabor Pinter (he had worked in Belarus since 2016).

Ante Jozic had previously worked at the apostolic nunciatures in India, Russia, the Philippines and the Ivory Coast.

He speaks ten languages: in addition to the native Croatian language, he speaks nine more languages, namely Italian, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Chinese, Russian and Polish.

A reminder, Belarus is keen to intensify cooperation with Vatican, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he met with Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See's Secretariat of State, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher who visited Belarus on 11 September.

“Your visit proves that Belarus and the Holy See have special relations of mutual understanding and trust. We are satisfied with the progress in the development of contacts at the high and highest levels,” Vladimir Makei said. He noted that the Belarusian president visited Vatican twice. Vladimir Makei also repeated the invitation to the Pope to visit Belarus. Vladimir Makei hailed the high level of cooperation between Belarus and the Holy See within the UN as the parties have shared principles and moral values.
