Belarus, Uzbekistan to sign memorandum of understanding on nuclear energy

Belarus, Uzbekistan to sign memorandum of understanding on nuclear energy

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan intend to sign a memorandum of understanding in the sphere of nuclear energy, BelTA learned from Lilia Dulinets, Deputy Director of the Nuclear Energy Department of the Belarusian Energy Ministry, during the 23rd Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum on 9 October.

According to the source, representatives of Kazakhstan are taking part in the forum. Kazakhstan is about to decide on building the country’s first nuclear power plant. Representatives of Uzbekistan are also taking part in the forum. This country made the same decision a short while ago. Belarus has already signed a memorandum of understanding on nuclear energy with Kazakhstan. A similar document is virtually ready to be signed with Uzbekistan. It is supposed to be signed this year, said Lilia Dulinets.

The official said that Belarus’ experience in the area of nuclear energy is in demand in the partner countries, which have started implementing their nuclear programs. “We abide by the principle of openness and actively share our experience. Delegations from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and other countries have been to Belarus. They were made familiar with the experience of construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant,” said the official.
