MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to increase the trade to $500 million by 2020, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy said during the 5th session of the joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan, BelTA has learned.

“In January-October 2017 the mutual trade amounted to $100 million. This is higher than in the same period of last year. The goal is to increase the trade to $500 million by 2020. All conditions are in place: political, economic, technical and technological. We must work together on third-country markets,” Mikhail Rusy said.

Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister Nodir Otazhonov noted that Belarus and Uzbekistan are traditional partners.

“Our countries maintain ties in trade, economy, science and culture. The joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation is expected to play a special role in their further development. The trade between our countries has been growing lately. We will work closely together and implement joint projects to hit the $500 million mark in our trade by 2020,” he said.

Minsk is playing host to the 5th session of the joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan. The parties are set to discuss the status and prospects of bilateral trade and economic interaction, cooperation in industry, transfer of technology. Cooperation in agriculture, light and food industries, construction, healthcare is also on the agenda. Consideration will be given to the ways of deepening interaction between regions and business circles of Belarus and Uzbekistan.
