MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Kirill Petrovsky addressed the 52nd session of the Committee on World Food Security on 21 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"For several years, the Committee on World Food Security has been discussing one of the main causes of world hunger – unilateral coercive measures, or sanctions," the Belarusian representative stated. "However, none of the sanctions have been lifted or reviewed during this time. The committee should make a clear and unambiguous statement regarding the prohibition of such tools in international relations."

"Belarus urges the committee to resolutely condemn the use of unilateral coercive measures, both those directly targeting food, fertilizers and their producers, and also others that impede free trade in these commodities, which are of exceptional importance for the security of mankind," Kirill Petrovsky stressed.
