MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – Belarus and UNESCO plan to expand cooperation, Chief Academic Secretary, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kilchevsky said at the opening of the 86^th meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Scientific Workers (WFSW) on climate change and alternative energy on 20 September, BelTA has learned.

“The World Federation of Scientific Workers cooperates with UNESCO, which is important for Belarus as well. UNESCO announces contests, programs and projects where we can take part in. That is why, such cooperation, this forum that is held in our country for the first time, will become a new step in our cooperation,” Alexander Kilchevsky stressed.

According to WFSW President Jean-Paul Laine, who is leading the delegation in Minsk, the organization unites scientists from different countries to seek solutions to global problems. “The conference has been organized by Belarusian and Russian scientists. Both the countries are scientifically-strong in the energy sector. That means that the opinion of these scientists on the issue is of great importance for us,” he said.

The scientific symposium in Minsk will be running through 23 September. Partaking in the event will be leading scientists from France, China, Portugal, Japan, Russia and other countries. Reports will be mainly focused on climate change and the role of the human activity in the process.

The World Federation of Scientific Workers is an international non-government organization that unites scientists, teachers, engineers and other technical workers from 18 countries. The Federation is UNESCO’s official partner, represents the interests of scientific workers and advances climate change, energy, drinking water availability and disarmament initiatives.
