Belarus-UNESCO cooperation prospects discussed in Paris

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France, Permanent Representative of Belarus to UNESCO Pavel Latushko met with President of the UNESCO General Conference Hao Ping on 14 April, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Paris.

When discussing the Belarus-UNESCO cooperation, Pavel Latushko noted the high level of cooperation with the international organization which celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding in 2015.

The meeting was held at the UNESCO headquarters in the run-up to Hao Ping’s visit to Belarus. On 17 April Mr Hao Ping will participate, in the capacity of China’s Deputy Education Minister, in the first meeting of the commission for cooperation in the field of education of the Belarusian-Chinese intergovernmental commission on cooperation. When in Minsk Mr Hao Ping is set to meet with Belarus Education Minister Mikhail Zhuravkov, visit the Belarusian State University, the Nesvizh Palace and Park complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Great Patriotic War Museum.

During the meeting the parties noted the high level of the Belarusian-Chinese bilateral contacts. Pavel Latushko said that the recent official visit of the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs to Belarus attests to the active development of relations between the two countries.

Mr Hao Ping confirmed that Belarus is China's closest partner and one of the countries with which China cooperates effectively in the field of education. Mr Hao Ping stressed that the level of education in Belarus is high and more Chinese students are willing to pursue higher education there. The two countries also cooperate in the field of postgraduate studies and science.
