Belarus, Ukraine to hold ministerial consultations on 26 February

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Ukraine plan to hold ministerial consultations in Minsk on 26 February, Dmitry Mironchik, head of the information and digital diplomacy office, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the media on 22 February, BelTA has learned.

The consultations will focus on the preparations for the First Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine which is due to take place in Gomel this year. The agenda of the consultations will also include issues related to cooperation in the political, trade, economic, humanitarian and other sectors.

The Belarusian delegation will be led by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yevdochenko.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, Ukraine has always been and will stay one of the most important political, trade and economic partners of Belarus. In 2017 the two states actively led a dialogue at the highest level. The Belarusian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was fully operational last year as well. In 2017 the mutual trade reached $4.6 billion, with Ukraine ranking Belarus’ second biggest partner in trade turnover and exports.

Belarus hopes that the ministerial consultations that are to be resumed after a long hiatus will contribute to uninterrupted cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
