Belarus, Turkey to develop scientific cooperation roadmap for 2019-2021

Belarus, Turkey to develop scientific cooperation roadmap for 2019-2021

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Turkey will develop a roadmap for cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) for 2019-2021, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov said at the meeting of the joint committee on sci-tech cooperation between TUBITAK and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the academy.

“The scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are interested in long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation with scientific organizations of Turkey. The potential of Turkish and Belarusian scientists is huge for significantly expanding bilateral cooperation. A roadmap filled with joint projects will help expand and deepen scientific collaboration for the benefit of the economies of the two countries,” Vladimir Gusakov said.

Cooperation with Turkey is based on the agreement signed between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and TUBITAK in 2002 and also the agreement on scientific cooperation concluded between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2009. “These agreements, however, are not being implemented in full. With a view to revitalizing mutually beneficial activities, the chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus suggested concluding a new agreement on cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences and TUBITAK,” the press service said. TUBITAK Vice President Orkun Hasekioglu stated that the Turkish side is interested in expanding cooperation.

At the meeting of the joint committee Belarusian and Turkish scientists agreed on the general areas of scientific and technical cooperation, which will be included in the roadmap. These are unmanned aerial vehicles, graphene and laser technologies, optoelectronics, new biomaterials, including biodegradables, as well as joint research into monitoring and control of air pollution in Antarctica. The parties plan to develop a concrete list of joint projects for the draft roadmap, which is planned to be signed during the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Turkey in April.

Belarusian and Turkish scientists also reviewed the implementation of joint projects for the competition of the Belarusian National Foundation for Fundamental Research and TUBITAK, discussed prospects for holding another competition.
