DUSHANBE, 23 October (BelTA) – Joint counterterrorism exercises of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will take place in Belarus in 2026. Head of the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center (CIS ATC) Evgeny Sysoev made the statement in Dushanbe, Tajikistan during the 3rd CIS conference on counteracting terrorism and extremism.

Evgeny Sysoev said: “We successfully combined counterterrorism exercises in Kyrgyzstan in 2023. We combined counterterrorism conferences in Tashkent last year. We will combine both conferences and exercises in Minsk next year.”

During the conference in Dushanbe Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Imangali Tasmagambetov noted that today terrorism is becoming an increasingly complicated threat, which requires coordinated collective efforts to fight this threat.

In his words, in this context the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the CIS ATC share the same goals: the counteraction of the spreading ideology of extremism and terrorism, the suppression of channels used to recruit citizens into terrorist organizations, and the neutralization of their resource base.

In turn, Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Piao Yangfan stated that it is impossible to overestimate the topicality of the fight against terrorism, extremism, and radicalism in the modern world. She added that the conference in Dushanbe facilitates the interaction of international organizations in counteracting common threats.
