Belarus to develop cooperation with WIPO

Belarus to develop cooperation with WIPO

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian government and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) are planning to sign a memorandum of understanding, Chairman of the Belarusian State Science and Technology Committee Aleksandr Shumilin told journalists at BelTA’s press center on 29 April.

“Director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization Francis Gurry is scheduled to visit Minsk on 3-5 June to discuss protection of intellectual property and cooperation with Belarus. Francis Gurry will attend a regional seminar on topical aspects of the use of intellectual property rights. Plans are in place to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Belarusian government and the World Intellectual Property Organization,” Aleksandr Shumilin said.

An intellectual property strategy for 2012-2020 is currently underway in Belarus. This is a fundamental document that defines the areas of development of this system in the country. A key role in this process belongs to the State Science and Technology Committee and its subordinate organization, the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP).

The center has been steadily developing cooperation with WIPO on the protection of intellectual property. Each year, the center participates in training seminars and distance courses organized by WIPO.
