MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – The 16th Winter Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) in Vienna will introduce Belarus as the host of the 26th OSCE PA Annual Session, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian parliament.

Austria will play host to the OSCE PA Winter Meeting on 23 and 24 February. The Belarusian delegation to the event will be led by Boleslav Pirshtuk, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives. The delegation will also include MPs Valery Voronetsky and Sergei Rakhmaninov (former Belarus’ Ambassadors to Austria and Japan respectively).

The Belarusian delegation will attend meetings of the OSCE PA Standing Committee and the three General Committees of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly: on Political Affairs and Security; on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment; on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions.

The meeting in Vienna will consider the key items on the OSCE agenda, including the situation with illegal migrants and refugees, the fight against international terrorism, the situation in Syria and Ukraine. It will also include a debate “Protecting human rights in times of crisis.”

Members of the Belarusian delegation are set to meet with the OSCE PA leadership and MPs from the OSCE member states to discuss topical issues of interaction and bilateral relations.

As BelTA reported earlier, the 26th OSCE PA Annual Session will be held in Minsk from 5 to 9 July. It will discuss ways for strengthening mutual trust and cooperation for the sake of peace and wellbeing in the OSCE zone. Nearly 700 guests are expected to attend the session. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed an executive order to set up a national organizing committee for the 26th Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
