Belarus suggests filling gaps in economic cooperation with Mongolia

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Belarus suggests filling gaps in the economic cooperation with Mongolia and taking it to a new, higher level, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a meeting with Mongolia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Damdin Tsogtbaatar on 4 June, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs warmly welcomed his Mongolian counterpart and noted that Mongolia’s friendly attitude is well-known in Belarus. He stressed that in the Soviet times Mongolia was viewed one of Belarus’ friendliest foreign countries.

“I am happy that relations between our countries have been vibrant in the recent years,” Vladimir Makei said. Not long ago the Belarusian-Mongolian cooperation was underestimated, with the mutual trade being low. “We need to take a closer look at the full range of bilateral cooperation, the potential of which is still largely untapped. There are new areas where we can achieve maximum results,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.

Vladimir Makei emphasized the importance of a political dialogue the parties are currently restoring. The visit of Damdin Tsogtbaatar is the first visit of the Mongolian minister of foreign affairs in the past 17 years.

Vladimir Makei expressed confidence that this visit would become a milestone in the bilateral relations and give a new impetus to the Belarusian-Mongolian cooperation.
