Belarus, Sudan sign memorandum of inter-parliamentary cooperation

MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – A memorandum of parliamentary cooperation between the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus and the National Assembly of the National Legislature of Sudan was signed in Minsk on 29 August, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko and Speaker of the National Assembly of Sudan Ibrahim Omer.

Vladimir Andreichenko told the media that the signing of the memorandum is an important step in the implementation of the agreements reached by the two heads of state during the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Khartoum in 2017. According to the speaker, the inter-parliamentary groups of friendship should play a significant role in the implementation of the memorandum. A working group on cooperation with the Parliament of Sudan has already been set up in the National Assembly of Belarus. The group is led by MP Dmitry Shevtsov. “Our Sudanese counterparts plan to set up a similar group in the near future,” said the chairman of the House of Representatives.

In his words, the meeting in the Belarusian parliament discussed a wide range of issues. First of all, the parties talked over the development of trade and economic cooperation, strengthening of relations in international organizations. Special attention was given to the development of the legal framework. “We reaffirmed our intention to assist our governments in the implementation of the plans to set up joint companies and assembly plants in Sudan, build housing and industrial facilities, cooperate in the humanitarian sector. On the whole, the MPs of Belarus and Sudan are ready for serious joint work,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

In turn, Ibrahim Omer stressed that the visit of the Sudanese delegation and the signing of the memorandum create a bridge of cooperation between Minsk and Khartoum in the political and economic sectors. “The signing of the memorandum is a good example of the intention of the MPs to develop and expand bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Sudan. This cooperation is important for the joint co-existence of our countries and nations. We hope for the development of cooperation both at the regional and international levels,” said the chairman of the National Assembly. He also expressed hope for the exchange of opinions and cooperation on the key issues of the international agenda.

Ibrahim Omer also invited Belarusian counterparts to pay a visit to Sudan.
