Belarus stresses importance of preserving Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park at UNESCO session

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – During the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee Belarus highlighted the importance of protecting the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
The session is taking place at the BEXCO in the Republic of Korea from 19 to 29 July. It has brought together delegations from the 21 member states of the World Heritage Committee, as well as observers from 175 states parties to the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
“Belarus is represented at the international session by Yevgeny Korzun, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus. One of the items on the agenda concerns the state of conservation of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park,” the ministry said.
Belarus drew the international community’s attention to the environmental risks associated with the barrier being built by Poland directly within the boundaries of the World Heritage site. “Such intervention requires continuous monitoring in order to preserve this unique transboundary ecosystem,” the ministry added.
