Belarus, Spain agree on intergovernmental commission on economic, industrial cooperation

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Spain have signed a memorandum that envisages a joint intergovernmental commission on economic and industrial cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On 13-14 June Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei paid a working visit to Spain. He held a meeting with Secretary of State for Trade of Spain Maria Luisa Poncela. A memorandum was signed between the governments of Belarus and Spain on economic and industrial cooperation, which envisages the operation of a joint intergovernmental commission in the area. The parties agreed to hold the first meeting of the commission in Minsk in autumn 2017. According to the press service, the meeting will be preceded by the work in outlining the most promising areas of cooperation.

The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs was received by President of the Spanish Senate Pio Garcia-Escudero. The parties discussed the prospects of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation and the parliamentary support of future bilateral economic projects.

Vladimir Makei held talks with Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Alfonso Dastis Quecedo. The ministers considered the whole range of bilateral relations, exchanged opinions on the current international agenda, discussed the prospects of Belarus’ cooperation with the EU, and also interaction in the United Nations, the OSCE and the Council of Europe.

The parties signed a convention on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of income and capital tax evasion, and also a memorandum of understanding on bilateral ministerial consultations.
