Belarus, Serbia agree on standardization cooperation
MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – The State Committee for Standardization of Belarus and the Institute for Standardization of Serbia have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian State Committee for Standardization.
The document was signed by Chairperson of the State Committee for Standardization Yelena Morgunova and Acting Director of Serbia’s Institute for Standardization Tatjana Bojanić.
The memorandum is aimed at developing and strengthening bilateral cooperation in standardization through mutually beneficial exchanges of experience and facilitating trade between the two countries.
The areas of cooperation include the exchange of information and expertise in technical regulation, as well as procedures for the development and implementation of standards. The parties also agreed to cooperate on the harmonization of national standards for mutually supplied products with international standards and to develop coordinated positions within international organizations, including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Other areas of cooperation include reciprocal internships, visits, participation in seminars and conferences, including educational events.
The signing ceremony took place as part of the 13th meeting of the Belarusian-Serbian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation held in Minsk on 23 June.
Cooperation in standardization was among the topics discussed during the meeting.
“This is the first cooperation document between our organizations,” Chairperson of the State Committee for Standardization Yelena Morgunova said. “Standardization is a driving force behind the economic development of states. In furtherance of this objective, we see significant potential for cooperation with our Serbian colleagues through the exchange of information on current standards and standardization trends, especially in sectors that are priorities in Belarusian-Serbian trade. We are ready to further develop bilateral cooperation, including in the context of the agreement on the reproduction and distribution of documents signed with the Belarusian State Institute of Standardization and Certification (BelGISS) earlier in 2026.”
