MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in taking the relations with Iraq onto a new strategic level, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he met with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Al Jaafari on 9 April, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus highly values the traditionally friendly relations with Iraq and views your country as an important partner in Middle East,” the Belarusian minister said. According to Vladimir Makei, despite a difficult situation in the region, Belarus believes that the potential of bilateral cooperation with Iraq is still untapped. “Belarus is interested in vigorous bilateral cooperation and contacts and a new strategic level for the Belarusian-Iraqi relations,” he said.

“I am confident that your visit will become an important step in strengthening all-round cooperation and will give a new impetus to our relations,” the minister added.
